Packing Light: A Review

When was the last time you took a risk? Gave up everything with the hope that something better was out there?

Allison Vesterfelt did just that at only twenty-six years old, quitting her job and selling all of her belongings to travel on a fifty-state road trip to see if there was more to life than the routine she had grown so comfortable with. As Allison and her friend Sharaya traveled the country, they quickly learned that not everything was going to go according to plan. They made mistakes and discovered grace along the way, as well as the freedom that comes with living with less baggage, literal and otherwise.

Packing Light is a captivating read that I all but raced through. I didn't want to put it down.

The beginning of the book, I'll be honest, seemed a little choppy at first. She would tell a story, then a lesson that went with it, and the pattern would continue, often to the point of becoming distracting. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get into it. But it really picked up, for me, in the middle, and from there there was no going back.

Allison's insights and adventures are incredibly inspiring in a way that made me pause and look at my own life. I would often put the book down and write pages in my journal about what I needed to give up, what I could do to take more risks.

Packing Light is both an entertaining story and an encouraging kick in the pants to discovering the freedom that comes with letting go. I would absolutely recommend it. Check it out here and tell me what you think.

"What if the point is the trip, and the end product is us?"

  3. That sounds very much like what my husband and I are working to do. We have already sold and donated most of our stuff and plan to have nearly all of it gone, so that we can get in an RV and travel the country. I must read this book! Thank you for the recommendation!
