best of 2013 (books)

Fiction

The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman - For when you want to get lost in a story.

I Married You for Happiness by Lily Tuck - Poetic, weird, thought provoking.

The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy - Southern, awe-inspiring prose.

Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery - For when you miss reading the Anne books for the first time.

Excellent Women by Barbara Pym - Witty, what Jane Austen would have been in the fifties.

Nonfiction

A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenberg - Made me almost want to learn how to cook.

The Right to Write by Julia Cameron - Changed my life.

Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist - Let's just say I read this three times in one year.

Still: Notes on a Mid-Faith Crisis by Lauren Winner - If you're into Lauren Winner.

The Sacred Echo by Margaret Feinberg - Made me snorty-cry in a coffee shop.

A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway - A feast indeed.

Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott - An Anne Lamott classic.

Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh - Best book of the year, a must-read for anyone female.

The Irrational Season by Madeleine L'Engle - Her best spiritual writing, next to Walking on Water.

  1. I love "Bittersweet." You would probably love her other two, especially her newest book "Bread & Wine." I love how Shauna writes!
