Book Report

If you're a new reader, you should know that I'm a little cuckoo for books. Like, I get a high walking out of the library. I've always said that if I were ever to get into a car accident (heaven forbid) it would be pulling out of the library parking lot, trying to flip through my new books and drive at the same time.

Anyway. This is a list of what I read in February, which feels like forever ago, but, well, here it is. I'll be a little more on top of things for this month's book report.

Without further ado...

THE MASTER'S PLAN FOR MAKING DISCIPLES - Win and Charles Arn

This book came highly recommended by Jessi of Naptime Diaries and, well, it was only a couple bucks on amazon, so I got it. This book is so packed with practical wisdom and I am gleaning so much from it that I decided to read it just a chapter at a time, so I still haven't finished. But if you are interested in discipleship or learning how to dedicate your life to sharing your faith with others, this is a must read. It's older and definitely hokey in some parts, but filled with biblical truths and wisdom. I'm all over it.

HAPPENS EVERYDAY - Isabel Gilles

So the only reason I really knew about this book is that when it first came out, it was sold in Starbucks. And I always picked it up to look at because the cover was pretty. So when I saw it in the library, I thought I'd give it a shot. If you're not familiar with the book, it's about a marriage and how it ended in an affair. It sounds depressing, right? But I was sure that it would be about more than that, about personal growth or a spiritual journey of the soul or something. But it was literally about how her marriage ended, and then the book ended. It was a page turner, and kind of fascinating in its own way, if you're a nosy sort of person (which I absolutely am.) But, would I recommend it? Nah.

WHAT ALICE FORGOT - Liane Moriarty

This was another random little book I picked up at the library, just for kicks. It's about a woman in the middle of a nasty divorce who loses her memory in an accident and can only remember being a newlywed. It's a cute story, a little fluffy but also well written. It's sweet, funny...actually, it's kind of what I wanted "The Vow" to be. Definitely worth a read if you want to settle into a good story.

THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING - Joan Didion

I think I'm just not a Joan Didion fan. I want to be, I feel like I'm supposed to be, but I just can't get into her books. Of course this is a modern classic, and well-written and thought-provoking. I get how so many people are in love with it, I can see that, but, I don't know. Life's too short. I want to read something a little more inspiring and lively.

EMILY'S QUEST - L.M. Montgomery

This was my guilty pleasure novel of the month. If you've read Anne of Green Gables, you know what I mean. Sometimes you just want a two page description of a shining lake or the magical world of Prince Edward Island. It's like my own personal happy place. This was the final in the Emily series, if you know anything about them, and was definitely the darkest. It was still full of the flowery descriptions, the humor and witty prose, but the uderlying tone was dark and kind of strange and not my favorite. But I was glad to finally finish the series that has literally been sitting on my bookshelf for over ten years.

What have you been reading lately?

  4. My guilty pleasure this month was The American Heiress ... very Downton Abbey.

I had a hard time with Didion too. I kept wanting to get up and hug my husband. Such a sad sad story.

I love your recommendations! My library list continues to grow...
