around here

-Planning a cozy Christmas Eve brunch with just the two of us. I really want to work on making traditions as a couple and enjoying at least one quiet morning together before making our rounds to see family. (I'm actually going to cook things. Obviously I am planning this days in advance.)

-Accepting the fact that our tree will probably never have a star on top of it.

-Christmas party-hopping. When you work at a church, you are invited/required to go to at least six different Christmas parties. I'm all about a party, but I'm getting to the point where I can't remember how many times I've worn my go-to sequined party top. It may or may not be the same one I wore to all of last year's Christmas parties.

-Trying to come up with clever responses at said parties when old people come up to me and say, "My word, honey, do you EAT anything? Go eat something right now; you're so skinny!"

And then they kind of shudder. And I feel all awkward, like I should apologize for my unfortunate luck in the gene pool or something.

Only in the South is being thin considered a disease.

-Deciding that all Christmas shopping will be totally finished by July next year. I can't tell if people are flocking to Target to stock up on toilet paper for the Apocolypse scheduled for this afternoon or to finish up Christmas shopping. Either way, it's crazy town.

-Anticipating the new year. It's going to be a good one.

  1. That is a downside of the South; the rudeness and close-mindedness (not that people in the rest of the USA are perfect). For some reason, people think it is okay to point out things about a person's appearance.

  2. Yeah, I always try to laugh it off, but people don't quite get the hint :)

  3. I think our generation needs to make note of something that seems to happen no matter how much one happens to weigh, so we don't do it to the young'ns when they're our age in the future:

NEVER, EVER, EVER comment on someone's weight. For real. Even if it's to compliment someone on their weight loss, only so do if you are CERTAIN they did it on purpose.

    Am I right, or . . . am I right???

  4. Amen!! A person's physical appearance (especially their weight) is a highly personal thing. It's just common decency to not talk about it.
