life lately

This week we had an afternoon date in the city. Coffee for him, English breakfast tea for me. Luscious lemon meringue for all.

This week I have read book after book on the art of cooking in hopes that I will finally learn to make something edible delectable. So far I have made Lentil soup and left out the lentils. It's not going so well.

This week I started my month long gluten-free experiment. I don't want to be picky or weird about what I eat (although some may argue that I already am...) I just want to give it a shot and see if it makes a difference in my skin, in my energy level, in how I feel overall. We'll see. It didn't take long to realize that this little experiment is kind of at odds with my cooking aspirations. One can only make salads and (not so) lentil soup for so long.

This week I've spent long, slow afternoons catching up, sipping green tea and then coffee and then black tea. It's been productive and peaceful, but I'm craving a coffee date with friends and, I don't know, movement of some sort. I'm terrible at exercising in the winter, especially in our ghetto little neighborhood where neighbors hang out on their porches and just kind of stare at you as you jog by.

I'm not even sure if you can call what I do "jogging." All of my life my sisters made fun of the way I run and I was sure they were lying. Then I got married and he, too, makes fun of me. Apparently I look like a crippled penguin when I run.

This week I've decided to grow these crazy bangs out. They were fun while they lasted. Moving on.

This week I was in a bit of a creative slump, but a few new projects I've been daydreaming about will hopefully get me back in the swing of things. Ready for a new week of new opportunities!

Have a lovely weekend!

  4. Cooking will become easier over time. Just stick with simple recipes to start off. Then, as you master that, move onto harder ones. Your bangs are so cute though! I've been debating on having mine cut. I did it once, not sure if it suited me :/

  5. i have found that when you are born and raised in the south (like myself), people expect you to know how to cook as soon as you come out of the womb. oopsies…i missed out on that one. not that i can't cook…i just don't super often. i'm not one of those people that really finds joy in cooking. maybe one day… :)

  7. I go in stages with cooking. Lately I hate it, but I used to love it! Your description of running reminded me of the Friends episode where Phoebe runs. Have you seen it? Funny!

  8. Yeah, so glad to have found you're blog:) Excited to get to know you better and follow along. I have been eating gluten free for almost 2 years now (and dairy free too) and it has changed my life! I have an autoimmune disease, and going off these foods helped calm my body down so much! I wish you the best...if you want any good recipes let me know! love Katie
